Speaking earlier today with James Brightman of GameDaily BIZ, EA Los Angeles VP and General Manager Neil Young let slip some exciting details about the previously-announced deal between EALA and famed director Steven Spielberg. The full interview goes up next week, but we have a quick excerpt here.
::rough transcript follows, full interview GameDaily BIZ::
Neil Young: ...there's also the Steven Spielberg projects we're working on. We have things we haven't really talked about but are, uh, they have a broad appeal in their nature.
GameDaily BIZ: We met with you back at E3 to talk about Spielberg and the projects, but is there anything we can talk about, any more details that have developed since the projects were first announced?
Neil Young: I can't really share any game details, but recall our original announcements was for three [Spielberg] projects. Well, two of those are underway right now in the studio.
The first [Spielberg] one, what I can tell you is what you'd expect, sort of, from a Steven Spielberg production. Steven's stories are intimate stories that take place around huge, world-changing events... sort of, big stories shown through the eyes of a small group. Doug Church is producing it...
The second [Spielberg] project is something Lou Castle is producing, one of the great producers in this industry, and that's one of the [Spielberg] products we're building for the Wii. Very exciting and interesting...
Steven's in the studio once a week, usually from one to four hours, stops by 8:30 and leaves midday and spends a good amount of time with us. It's a very close, collaborative relationship... it's wonderful... he's a wonderful guy, incredibly creative... it's a learning experience working with Steven...
There you have it, not only has EA announced expanded support of Nintendo Wii in the past week, but one of the highly-anticipated project collaboration with Steven Spielberg is being produced for Nintendo Wii. We're going to keep a close eye on this, but be sure to check out the full interview with Neil GameDaily BIZ, and follow our ongoing GDC coverage in our special GDC 07 Live section of GameDaily XL.

1. Whoever wrote this article needs to work on their reading comprehension. ..nowhere in the article does it confirm that Spielberg is involved in the Wii game. Read the sentence again:
The second project is something Lou Castle is producing, one of the great producers in this industry, and that's one of the products we're building for the Wii.
Lou Castle, one of the 'great producers in the industry', is making the Wii game. It couldn't be more obvious.

2. Rumor has it, the Wiimote will be your walkie talkie in a FPS. No guns, just walkie talkies as you and your son or daughter escape from a dangerous situation only to reunite as a family at the end.

3. I think the implication is pretty clear.
"I can't really share any game details, but recall our original announcements was for three projects. Well, two of those are underway right now in the studio."
So, based on the previous question, it's established we're talking about the Spielberg projects. And he's now focusing on two of them.
"The first one, what I can tell you is what you'd expect, sort of, from a Steven Spielberg production. Steven's stories are intimate stories that take place around huge, world-changing events... sort of, big stories shown through the eyes of a small group. Doug Church is producing it..."
That's one. Spielberg project one. Now it's kind of odd, but Neil goes on to finish his thought of talking about the two Spielberg games.
"The second project is something Lou Castle is producing, one of the great producers in this industry, and that's one of the products we're building for the Wii. Very exciting and interesting..."
That's two. Spielberg project two.
I think... yeah. I think you've been pwned.

5. As a veteran of the Korean so called police action, only the opening of Private Ryan is a true combat film.......this is what everyone should see so they can appreciate the sacrifices soldiers make,,,,,also maybe these action games that glorify killing will be less enticing,,....killing and maiming others ,even the enemy we face is not glorious.....I STILL CRY AND IT IS MORE THAN HALF A CENTURY AGO

7. Spielberg should do the story of Two Eddies. Eddie Butch O'Hare shot down six Japanese bombers single handedly and saved the Lexington aircraft carrier. He won the Congressional Medal of Honor and O'Hare airport in Chicago was rightfully named after him.
His father was Eddie Sr. who worked for Al Capone and later went undercover for the Government. He brought down Capone and eventually was killed by the Mob.
The importance of the Lexington was that without that carrier after WWII the US might have lost the Battle of the Coral Sea and would not have been able to participate at Midway which was the turning point of the the War in the Pacific.
Eddie Jr. avenged his father and helped to bring down Nitti and the rest of the Chicago mob.
The new exciting script is now available on Scriptblasters. The two finalist for Best picture Oscar was a World War II movie and a gangster picture. Two Eddies has both.

8. I enjoyed Saving Private Ryan right up to the final battle sequence. It was just militarily stupid.

9. Nowhere in this article does it confirm that Speilberg is making a game....this is the actual comment "Doug Church is producing it...
The second project is something Lou Castle is producing, one of the great producers in this industry, and that's one of the products we're building for the Wii. Very exciting and interesting... "
No where in this does it state Spielberg specificaly making the game only Doug Church and Lou Castle are mentioned!
However if Speilberg does make a game im sure it will be very interesting and at the same time a better story line!

10. peanut, we just edited the article to clarify. Neil was talking about two of the three projects Spielberg and EALA are working on. Doug Church and Lou Castle are mentioned as producers on this product from the EALA side, helping Spielberg execute his vision. Definitely excited to see these come out!

12. i lived in holland during the 2nd ww - it is amazing how americans only remember the japanese part - the holocaust - and the paris invasion. never have i seen or read anything from the people (the citizens) who were actually personally involved in the war. also how difficult it really was to immigrate legally to the u.s. everything seems to be treated impersonal and not important lately.
